How to Celebrate World Gin Day!
This Saturday, we're celebrating World Gin Day at the distillery, welcoming customers into the distillery and sharing our love of gin with the world. If you can come along and join us here in our Welsh distillery, we'd love to see you - but we'll also share some ideas that you can adopt to celebrate World Gin Day at home!
Gin Tasting to mark World Gin Day
It's an obvious thing to say - but Gin Tasting is a fantastic way to mark World Gin Day. We're assuming you'll be enjoying at least one G&T to mark the occasion, but if you have a few different gins in your drinks cupboard, why not line them all up and use it as an opportunity to really appreciate the different bottles you own.
Assessing gin uses your senses of sight, scent and taste - what does the liquid in your glass look like? What does it smell like? And finally - how does it taste? All three aspects of your gin will contribute to the bigger picture, providing clues as to questions such as 'is this a dry gin?' (hint: if your gin is coloured, it is almost certainly not a 'dry' gin).

We run through the science of this in our Gin Tasting Experiences which are bookable online and take place on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 2 p.m. and then let you loose on 3 different Welsh gins. If you're free on World Gin Day, why not book in?
Cocktails to mark World Gin Day
We love a cocktail here and mixing up something a bit more fancy than your usual G&T is a brilliant way to appreciate the versatility of gin. Whether you go sweet or sour, martini or collins, there's definitely a gin cocktail for everyone, and we have a great range on our website - take a look.
Our favourites include The Sprint Finish - our Signature Style take on a Garden Martini, borrowing herbaceous flavour from cucumber and cardamom notes, and a Black Tea and Orange Sour, a grown up blend of gin, black tea and citrus.

The perfect G&T for World Gin Day
If you are just planning to enjoy a quiet (or not so quiet) G&T for World Gin Day, we're here to help. For a start, you can use WORLDGINDAY at the checkout on World Gin Day itself (Saturday 14th June) and get 10% off our 70cl bottles of Gin in the In the Welsh Wind and Eccentric Spirits ranges.
We pair all our gins with plain tonic - we've done the hard work building the botanical profiles for all our gins, packing them with flavour - so give it a go. If, after you've tried our gin with a plain tonic, you want to branch out with other flavours, by all means be our guest. Tag us on our social media @IntheWelshWind and let us know how you drink our gin.
Our approach to ice is that less is more. A cube is enough to chill the gin down, without freezing out all the flavour. Bigger cubes of ice melt more slowly, keeping the drink chilled but not diluted. Afterall, who wants to drown theyr G&T in melted ice?
Finally garnish. The days of the 'slice' (or lemon) are long gone, and we see some really creative garnishes being served up these days. We tend to use dehydrated fruit - a slice of orange studded with a clove for our Signature Style; grapefruit for Cardiff Dry; juniper berries and lime leaf for Dewi Sant - but if you have the time to play around, there are plenty of alternatives. Rosemary is a delicious herb to pair with a herbaceous gin, and cucumber also adds a clean taste to some serves.
