Our Welsh Cask Vinegar has proved a huge hit: not just for savoury dishes but in sweet dishes and also cocktails. If you thought vinegar was the last thing you'd want to put in a cocktail think again! The addition of Welsh Cask Vinegar to a cocktail adds layers of flavour and extra depth to your favourite serves. In this Strawberry and Basil Smash, which includes not only our Welsh Cask Vinegar, but our Dewi Sant Dry Welsh Gin from our Eccentric Spirits range, the vinegar highlights the strawberry and herbaceous flavours from the basil and the fennel notes in the gin.
You'll also need some simple sugar syrup - you can buy this online, or it's easy to make for yourself - plus strawberries and basil.
Strawberry Basil Smash - featuring Welsh Cask Vinegar
(serves 1 - easily doubled!)
Fresh Strawberries - 2
Dewi Sant Gin - 50ml
Welsh Cask Vinegar - 20ml
Simple Syrup - 15ml
Fresh Basil - 8 leaves, plus a sprig to garnish
Add your strawberries to a shaker and 'muddle' (crush up)
Pour in the gin, vinegar and simple syrup
Clap the 8 basil leaves between your hands and drop into the shaker
Add ice cubes to the shaker and shake until the outside of the shaker feels cold
Double strain the cocktail into a martini glass and garnish with basil.
