At In the Welsh Wind, we’ve always believed that great whisky begins with patience, collaboration, and a deep sense of place. This year, that belief has been rewarded in the most extraordinary way.
Our blended Welsh malt whisky, Brychan, has been honoured at the World Whiskies Awards 2026 with not one, but three major accolades - including Gold, Category Winner, and Country Winner for Best Welsh Blended Malt.
As a carefully curated blend of Welsh single malts, aged in bourbon, port, and red wine casks, Brychan was designed to be greater than the sum of its parts - rich, balanced, and unmistakably Welsh.
To see it recognised on the global stage is both humbling and energising. The judges described a whisky of depth and warmth, with layers of fruit, spice, and gentle oak - exactly the character we set out to create.
This achievement also marks an important moment not just for us, but for Welsh whisky as a whole. Brychan is the first blended Welsh malt whisky of its kind — a reflection of a growing, collaborative industry that’s re-establishing Wales on the world whisky map.
We’re incredibly proud of what’s been achieved, but we see this as just the beginning. Brychan is the first step in a wider journey — one that continues to explore the possibilities of Welsh whisky, working with fellow distilleries and pushing boundaries with every release.
