The latest rounds of gin judging in the London Spirit Competition have just been completed and it’s been hugely exciting to hear from our brands and to find that there are now a number of award-winning Welsh gins in our drinks cabinet. Here’s a run down of the award-winning Welsh gins that we’re proud to have had a hand in – from developing the flavour profiles and working on branding to distillation and hand bottling and labelling.

Tenby Dry Gin

Tenby Dry Gin, made for the Pembrokeshire Gin Co, is a fresh combination of citrus and Welsh grown rosemary. It’s been hugely successful, winning a prestigious International Wine and Spirit Competition bronze award in 2019 and 2020. Tenby Dry Gin was runner up in the Drinks Innovation Award at the International Drinks Expo in London in November 2019. Tenby Dry Gin has continued to wow judging panels. It was crowned ‘Best Gin in Wales’ at the Gin Guide Awards and secured Highly Commended in the London Spirit Competition in both London Dry Gin and Contemporary Gin categories.

Solva Dry Gin

Recently securing a silver award in the London Spirit Competition 2020, Solva Dry Gin takes its flavour profile from the cliffs of the Pembrokeshire coast – and the goods that were smuggled in from the sea around this picture-perfect Pembrokeshire village. Bergamot, black tea and gorse flower are the botanicals that sing in this gin created for Edge Festival Solva. Even though the Festival itself was a casualty of COVID in 2020, Solva Dry Gin continues to be popular and proceeds continue to support community projects in and around Solva.

Morwyn Dry Gin

We’re delighted that the World Gin Awards awarded Morwyn Dry Gin best Welsh Contemporary Gin 2020, and, hot of the press, has just received a Silver Medal from the International Wine and Spirit Competition 2020. Created for Welsh Sisters, gorse root, angelica, sage and grapefruit combine to tell the story of Morwyn, a powerful sea goddess who raised a storm to thwart a wedding and make off to the land of eternal youth with the groom to be – who she had taken a fancy to.

The Captain’s Wife Dry Gin

Another winner for the Welsh Sisters brand, The Captains Wife also scored highly in the World Gin Awards 2020, coming away with a silver medal. This award-winning welsh gin, inspired by a Welsh Woman’s voyages on the Trade Routes between Wales and South America bursting with Andalucian lemon, fig and Yerba Mate tea, received a Bronze Medal from the International Wine and Spirit Competition 2020, and was Highly Commended in the Gin Guide Awards 2020.

Declaration Dry Gin

Another medal winner in the International Wine and Spirit Competition 2020, Declaration Dry Gin secured a Bronze, described by the judges as a ‘captivating offering’. Developed for a rather special client, the botanicals we brought together reflect a trio of major international cricketing nations – ginger (Australia), Darjeeling tea (India) and liquorice (England) to sit alongside rich, aromatic Macedonian Juniper.

Award-winning Welsh Gins!

It’s a great accolade for the distillery to have had a hand in so many award-winning Welsh gins so early in our story. We’ve learnt so much and we’re always striving to bring our ever-expanding experience into every bottle we distil. We’re very excited to be able to tell you that our own brand In the Welsh Wind Signature Style dry gin, has a Gold medal from the Global Gin Masters, and its sister gin, Palo Cortado cask-aged gin has a Master medal from the same. Ini our Eccentric Spirits range, Young Tom is a Master medal winner, and Cardiff Dry and Dewi Sant were awarded gold medals, while in the World Gin Awards, Dewi Sant was crowned best contemporary gin in Wales, and the Palo Cortado, best cask-aged gin.

Our ambitions are bold. From award-winning gins, our thoughts are now with single malt Welsh whisky – follow our journey!
