The story of Ceredig

Sails stowed, rigging creaking by the quay, we watched the crew unload their prizes - trunks, chests, even casks of oak, bound with iron hoops: precious liquid headed for onwards carriage. As the sun lowered in the sky, something indefinable shifted as if, for a second, those calloused hands, deftly handling goods from across the oceans, had been somehow altered by months at sea.

As suddenly as it came, the feeling passed. Task complete, the crew dispersed - to their homes, to the local hostelries - wherever their wages held more sway, keen to anchor themselves back to the shore.
