Created for us, and our In the Welsh Wind Signature Style gin for St David’s Day, we bring you the Spiced Welsh Breakfast. Originally shared on our social feeds back in March, the prospect of some lazy spring and summer mornings ahead makes us think that now is the perfect time to share this recipe with you on our blog. Crafted by local mixologist Owen Williams, it’s perfect to welcome an easy start to the weekend!
The Spiced Welsh Breakfast is a spin on a classic Breakfast Martini using (of course) In The Welsh Wind Signature Style Gin. This serve complements the botanical flavours of orange and spices – cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg – found in the gin. The orange liqueur, fresh orange juice and marmalade gives the serve a beautiful bitter sweet flavour, and the ginger syrup and aromatic bitters adds depth of flavour and gives a lovely warm finish.

*Wondering where to get your hands on ginger syrup? You can buy it online, but if you have a some time (you don’t need much) you can make ginger syrup yourself. A simple recipe, to make 500 ml, thinly slice 100g of fresh root ginger (peeled weight). Bring 250ml water and 200g caster sugar to the boil and then add the thinly sliced ginger. Cook very low for around 30 minutes until you have a syrup – don’t leave it simmering for too long and make it too thick! Strain the syrup into a jar that you can seal, but let it cool down with the lid off, before mixing up your own Spiced Welsh Breakfast. If any is left over, seal the jar and store in the fridge.
